Proposal for the introduction of an internal party wiki
Presently, as it stands branch meetings and the discussions within them are in part lost to time after the meeting ends. I'm proposing that we add an internal wiki that party members can access in order to view past discussions, sources and notes that people may contribute. This can allow members to explore a historical record of how the party has grown and changed with time and to view past positions on various topics taken by the party. It can also allow a greater deal of cross branch collaboration. Currently, knowledge can seem a little siloed between branches that have less overlap due to distance etc. This could allow for people doing connected leadoffs to gain access to notes and sources from outside of their own branch more easily.
To implement this, I suggest the party run the software this page is hosted on, BookStack, which is a free tool used by organizations for similar purposes. This has the downside of having to have someone maintain the software to ensure its function, but the upside of not having another dependency on Big Techâ„¢ and can open the door to potentially using other software internally managed by party members.
When documenting meetings, a page can be created to include the agenda for that day, optionally notes and sources can be included if the person giving the leadoff is open to it. Additionally members who wish to can have their contributions iincluded could update the page or add a comment on the page. The software allows attaching files so hand written notes can be included and it may also be a good way to keep a record of past books read in reading groups without having to scroll through group chats to find PDFs sent weeks or months ago.
I'd suggest that initially branch meetings are recorded to the wiki and if it finds use with members it could be expanded for recording reading group notes ornotes, public BC meeting minutes.minutes, or providing a location where contacts can be sent some introductory materials such as recommended reading or documents on the party structure.
